Wonderful bustling small town, great schools
Allendale is a fabulous place to live and people often move back here to raise their families. They have a very active but small downtown area. Good resataurants, small shops and the A&P Shopping Center. There are many active social groups including the Allendale Newcomers Club, the Womens Club, Holiday Observers....etc

Allendale School District – Hillside K-3, Brookside 4-8, NO buses, Offers After school programs at both schools from YWCA staff.
High School is Northern Highlands Regional HS and a separate school district for this one school. It is highly ranked in the state. USR, HHK and SR can go to this school as well or others can pay tuition if not a resident of these towns (about 13K per yr). No buses but towns outside of Allendale hire private bus companies to bus their student to NHRHS.
Commuting – Bus and Train station, about 1 hr to Port Authority – only 2 bus stops AM and 2 in the PM in Allendale on Franklin Turnpike. Train is Bergen Main Line, www.njtransit.com, $50 parking pass at train station for residents. – get the pass from the Police Station.
Recreation – Allendale Recreation Commission www.arcsports.org, has rec and travel teams. There are school teams in 7/8th grades for many sports.
Crestwood Park has many of the rec. fields used, tennis courts, and beach area that is a membership only summer place. (Great advantage of this town!) Also ALEOOOP summer camps run by volunteer commission.
Library has children's programs, book sales, lectures. The Library, Town Hall offices and Court are all in the same building on the corner of Crescent and Brookside. (Get CO and Sign permits here)
Social Life – Holiday Observers Club organizes many events throughout the year, Holiday Parade, Egg Hunt, Halloween Dance, Huge July 4th Fireworks extravaganza at Crestwood and all day festival, Memorial Day Parade…etc
Allendale Women's Club does many social events and fundraisers.
Allendale Newcomers Club is a social club with men sports, and many, many adult and family activities, playgroups for children and events. Great club for new people or not so new.
W. Allendale Avenue has great restaurants, the famous AB&G, A&P shopping center and other shops that makes everything easily accessible. Parking is usually easy to find.
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors Allendale Day every year in October that is getting bigger every year.
History - Allendale was named in the 1840's after John Allen who was the surveyor for the railroad as it was constructed during this time.
The big claim to fame in Allendale is the Historic Fell House. It was the home of John Fell and is still on Franklin Turnpike today. He was arrested his house by the British and imprisoned in NYC and later became a member of the Constitutional Congress and ratified the Constitution. George Washington was supposedly a frequent visitor to the house during the war.
